hallowe'enie

This is the week of Halloween.
I could care less and pretty much ignore anything Hallowe'enie in the stores etc.
But there are some pretty cute decorating ideas
that have to do with pumpkins and
so I take this opportunity to share them over the next few days.

walk blog 2

A couple of weeks ago I was at the church on a Thursday evening and was waiting for a meeting to start and saw a Darts driver doing her job most efficiently. She had wheeled the client into the fellowship hall and was getting back to the van.
As she walked by me, I told her “Thank you for the work that you are doing. I want you to know that it is appreciated.”
She responded, “Thanks, you need to know that that means an awful lot to me right now.”

The next day I was trudging down the city streets on my walk.
As I was walking down Acadia a woman, who had just left the house down the street, pulled her car over with her window down and said, “Keep going, you're doing great” and gave me a thumbs up.
As I came up to the house that she had just left another woman was still out on her porch from waving good bye to the woman in the car.
As I passed the house I indicated to the woman standing in front of her house that the other woman had really encouraged me and I appreciated it.
She then said some encouraging words and added, “I am a walker too.”
I replied that I wasn't a walker and this was hard for me.
She said, “Well, keep at it because you look terrific.”

The next morning I woke up a walker

and really grateful to that woman.

Casual words said to people we don't really know.
Encouraging words.

If only we heard them and spoke them more often.

walk blog 1

I have been walking since September.
I started out committing myself to at least 3 miles 3 times a week,
I think I heard Judge Judy say she goes that far and so I figured I could at least do the same.
It has become so much fun that I look forward to it.
I would love to do it every day but some days I just cannot fit it in.
Some walks are longer – some shorter.
The longest in one walk was 7 miles.
I have now walked in the rain and the cold. Something I have said I would not do.
But I will not walk when there is snow or ice on the sidewalks
so we will see how long I can walk outside.
Then I will have to dust off the treadmill. And that is literal.
There is plenty of dust residing on that beast in the basement.
I have, so far, not walked with anything to listen to. No music and not spoken word.
Just my thoughts and prayers as I plod down sidewalks.

It has become a most marvellous part of my day.

This was one of the most interesting trees I have seen on my meanderings.
It is located on the north side of Stonechurch Road
between Upper Gage and Upper Ottawa.
