today while the blossom

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I’ll taste your strawberries, I’ll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
‘Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, Today

I’ll be a dandy, and I’ll be a rover
You’ll know who I am by the songs that I sing
I’ll feast at your table, I’ll sleep in your clover
Who cares what tomorrow shall bring

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I’ll taste your strawberries, I’ll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
‘Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, Today

I can’t be contented with yesterday’s glory
I can’t live on promises winter to spring
Today is my moment, now is my story
I’ll laugh and I’ll cry and I’ll sing

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I’ll taste your strawberries, I’ll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
‘Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, Today

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I’ll taste your strawberries, I’ll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
‘Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, Today

Words and Music by Randy Sparks

When the twins were over last week and I was settling them in for bed I was singing the above song to them. As with most music I was probably destroying the melody. All I could remember was the chorus. I couldn't even remember where I had heard it at all. I know it had been years.

I youtube searched and found that it had been recorded by John Denver and also by Bobby Goldsboro. I don't think it ever became a hit on the radio and I didn't have the album that the song was on.

So where did I hear it? How could I remember it so well from all those years ago? I may never know.

But I love it when the music is so close to your soul that it lives in you and can be recalled for any time or circumstance.

Like Andy Dufresne said "They can't take that away from you"
