Were you smart?

A long time ago Martin met with an old schoolmate of mine.
It had been many years and
they were trying to figure out
if I was the same person that Don had remembered.
It went something like this...

"I went to school with your wife, Anita, right?"
"Yes."
"Her last name was Eleveld?"
"Yes."
"She had dark hair?"
"Yes."
And then Don said, "she was really smart?"

Martin paused, reflected and then said...
"no, nope, don't think it was her"

He later came home and asked me, "Were you smart?"
I replied with the obvious, "Yes"
Then my charming husband said, "No, really"
